Throughout Normandy last night, the region celebrated its rich cultural and architectural heritage with two events. The first was Night At The Museums during which museums were open for special evening visits. The second was an event called Pierres en Lumières involving over 200 buildings such as castles, abbeys, churches, cathedrals, chapels, manor houses and monasteries. The buildings were opened to visitors late into the evening for an opportunity to see them lit up. I visited the 12th century ruined Abbey at Hambye in La Manche region of Normandy arriving just before dusk. Powerful lighting, candles and tea lights transformed the abbey as the daylight faded and highlighted the impressive structure.
