Good morning from Normandy

Good morning from Normandy

Originally shared by +Gavray gite rentals, Normandy France

I opened the shutters this morning to such a beautiful sunrise that I just had to capture it. I headed out to the garden and the views only got better. Everything was bathed in a warm and golden light which seemed slightly surreal but from time to time the morning dew on my feet reminded me otherwise. It's faded now but what a great start to the day in Normandy.

Autumn in Normandy

Today is a gloriously sunny day full of Autumn colour here in Normandy. I took these pictures in and around my garden of the holly, viburnum and acer (or perhaps it's a maple?) The garden for the gite has recently been created so now is the perfect time to think about creating colour in it all year round.

Autumn in Normandy

autumn in Normandy

Having enjoyed an 'indian summer' in late September, the weather is definitely changing. The mornings can be misty and the days are getting shorter. However, there's still plenty to see and do in Normandy. The beaches are quieter than usual but great for walking and beach combing. Or you can explore the many walking routes and admire the autumnal colours. Thinking of an autumn visit to Normandy? Check out the website and you could be enjoying beautiful scenery, delicious food and drink and a cosy gite with a woodburning stove.

Supertide returns to Normandy

high tide at briqueville sur mer

Today is another supertide (une grande marée) along the Normandy coast with a coefficient of 117 expected. The photo shows the scene at Bricqueville sur Mer earlier this year. There’s a road underneath that sign which completely disappears when the tide comes in. Mont St Michel will also become an island as the tide cuts it off from the mainland. Definitely a spectacle worth seeing.

Garden creativity in Coutances

Garden creativity in Coutances

The Jardin des Plantes in Coutances, Normandy, is garden creativity at its best. Each year, the garden has a theme which is then reflected in the planting. This year the displays are all about energy sources. Great fun and really interesting too.

Goat and alpaca farm in Normandy

Goat and alpaca farm in Normandy

A visit to the farm in La Baleine is a great activity for children. Just a 15 minute drive from Gavray, you can take a guided tour on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3pm. We were the only people for the tour so the owner, Benoit, explained about the goats and alpacas in English. Children are able to get up close to the goats although the alpacas are more timid. Benoit's wife, Cecile, knits and weaves with the mohair and alpaca wool and sells a range of handmade items in the shop which is open from 2 – 7pm on the same days as the farm tours.
