On day 7 of the Normandy Advent Calendar I’d like to share the abbey at Longues-sur-Mer with you. It was founded in 1168 and the first monks came from Hambye Abbey.

Many of the the buildings date from the 13th and 14th centuries. At this time there would have been the following structures:- a gatehouse, coach house, barn, abbey church, cloister, chapter room, refectory, kitchen, scriptorium or library, infimary, lay quarters, abbot’s house, dovecot, farm buildings and various gardens. The photo shows the view as you walk through the main entrance. The large building in the centre is the abbot’s house. On the left is the abbey church. And on the right hand side is the refectory. There’s more information and photos in my blog post as I take you on a virtual visit to the abbey at Longues-sur-Mer. #NormandyAdventCalendar #VacationSoup #BookDirect #Normandy #Abbey #Longues-sur-Mer We spent 3 weeks creating the best online guide to Normandy on the web.
